Ticks in Florida
Hello everyone, I want to tell you about my adventurous bike ride! I live in Florida, so our mountain bikes don’t really go up mountains here, but we do have some hills. My partner, her younger brother and I took our bikes through some trails in the woods.
Kelley loves nature and we would stop every so often to look at the birds or a turtle scurrying through the woods. The trail was longer than we thought it was going to be and therefore, we ran out of water. We were extremely thirsty and hot. There were markings on the trees for the trail, but I swear the markings didn’t help much because we felt like we were getting lost. The trail seemed to go on and on forever.
We finally reached the end of the trail and we stopped at the concession store to get something to drink and we missed the close time by five minutes, so I wanted to take a dip in the water because its spring water and it would cool me off real fast. Spring water is 75 degrees year round, so you can imagine the shock I felt once I jumped in. We left shortly after my dip in the springs.
On the ride home, I felt like I was sitting on a piece of sand. I lifted up my butt to brush whatever it was off my butt. This thing was kind of sticking to my rear end. I said, “What is that”? Kelley said, “It’s a tick”! I freaked out and pulled the tick off and then I flicked it off into the truck. Ticks were found in the weirdest places.
Kelley’s little brother is not so little, but he is a few years younger than me. He had a total of four ticks. One on his Armpit, two on his ankle, and the fourth was found on his scrotum. How in the world did the tick make its way to his scrotum? Kelley found one little baby tick on her ankle. I guess the bugs don’t like her.
Next time we go for a mountain bike ride in the woods, we will use some bug repellent and make sure we bring more water. Aside from the mishaps we had when we went, I highly recommend going on a bike ride through the trails. The scenery is great!
